Some of our members have been in Ionians for more than 50 years. Do you recognise the faces? In the Melbourne Cup photo from 1966, there is only Peg Green who is a life member living now in Cairns. I find a change of hair colour makes it harder for me to identify.
It is clear to see that Ionians have always enjoyed getting together over food and activities varied. Many opportunities for events with our partners has always happened. Conventions have been held for many years and we have been represented there and have hosted as well.
Our group spent a day at the National Palace Museum viewing treasures that go back 8000 years. The brass vessels are the oldest items of the collection of 800000 items collected by the Chinese Emperors. Most of these treasures were brought to Taiwan by Chang Kai Shek in 1949.
Taiwan Lantern Outing 2020
One day in Taiwan, the group had an outing to Pingxi Old Town for a Lantern making experience. Frames were made with wire and then covered with material. Then messages were written on the lantern before they were launched with burning material to create uplift. See the fun our group had.
